This custom map was produced for an academic publication focusing on Nun Abutsu’s (1222-1283) travel diaries among which Izayoi nikki (Diary of the Waning Moon or Journal of the Sixteenth-Night Moon) is her most well known work. After her husband’s death, a dispute over her son's inheritance led her, in either 1277 or 1279, to travel from Kyoto to Kamakura in order to plead on her son's behalf. The map illustrates her itineraries from Kyoto to the various places she visited.
